THE LATEST REPORTS

RIGA STILL HOLDING OUT

YUDENITCH'S SENSATIONAL

ADVANCE,

(Australian & N.Z. Cable Association.,

(Received Oct. 16, 1.5 a.m.)

London, Oct. 15

Fighting continues on both Petrograd and Moscow fronts. Deniken's rapid advance in the neighbourhood of Orel has caused a panic amongst the Bolsheviki at Moscow.

The Letts are apparently still holding out at Riga, defying Bernondt, who styles himself Prince Avaloff, but the most sensational development is the breaking through in the direction of Petrograd of Yudenitch's North-west Russian army. Meanwhile the Esthonians, advancing from Narva, have reached Moloskovitshi, halfway between Kyamoburg and Catchina.

According to a despatch from Reval dated 13th inst., Y'udenitch's offensive opened with the capture of Yamburg last week. His advance guard, under General Glasenapp, took Volossova, 40 miles eastward, on the 12th, reaching the most advanced point of the June offensive and capturing between, ten and twelve thousand prisoners, an armoured train, and the staff of an artillery brigade. Simultaneously Yudenitch is striking successfully at the Bolshevists' main communications southwards. He is close to the Luga, and it is reported that he has re-captured Pskoff. advancing fifteen miles in 24 hours. The despatch says the offensive continues amid a wave of patriotic enthusiasm on a, front of 100 miles. The Bolsheviki are everywhere panicstricken.

A British destroyer brought six Genman merchantmen to Reval in the last two days.
