The report t'uanked the authorities at Knox College, Dunedin, for according the full ministerial course to Baptists. In the course of discussion ' oil tuu tuiiovt several speakers stressed the necessity for a revision of t*e methods employed in training men for the Baptist ministry. It was agreed that the conference commend to the Students' Committee the consideration of (1) the advisability of providing for students having a preliminary course of training in actual home mission or other preaching work under direct supervision of some experienced minister; (2) the wisdom of arranging, as far as possible, that the first ministerial charge upon completion of their course should be in such I a sphere as would permit of definite and constant advice and help from some senior minister. I It was resolved that a sustentation fund, to be worked as far as possible with the ministerial settlements scheme, be established with a view to augmenting the stipends of ministers and home missionaries, and that a committee be set up to draft rules and obtain financial support. j J t was agreed that a paid secretary and treasurer be appointed to devote his whole time to the business of the union and the missionary society.
