NELSON RUGBY UNION.

SATURDAY'S GAMES. Good weather prevailed for the continuation of the Rugby fixtures on Saturday. SENIOR CUP. NELSON (6) V. COLLEGE (3). The principal attraction was the Senior game at Trafalgar Park between Nelson and College. College started well, and quickly had weir opponents in difficulties. Hargreaves carried back, which saved the situation. Nelson then took play to the College line, where off-side gave Reed an easy shot. A force-down was the result. Immediately after the kick-out Nelson again returned to the attack, but off-side spoilt a likely score. After College had been pressed for some time, Cressey picked out, which gave Nelson an eas> shot at goal. The kick was fruitless. A few minutes later Nelson were awarded another free kick right under the goal. Westrupp's kick failed to notch a score. Nelson continued to keep play in College territory, and in some open play Curnow secured the ball and made a brilliant run for a score and was only grassed a few feet off the College line. A scrum was formed Here, but off-side by Nelson gave College a: chance to clear their line. A neat passing rush by Garvin, Hargreaves, and Reed looked dangerous, but a throw forward spoilt -a sure score. At this stage Col- i lego wore penalised for off-side right under the goal. Reed's kick was a failure. From the 25-out Lulliam got possession -and punted over the College line, leading to a touch-down. From the kick-out Nelson again pressed, and Garvin marked under the goal. Reed took the kick, but missed an easy chance. The game now livened up. Nelson's weight began to tell, but College defended gamely, Holmes, Bennett, and Fafconer putting in some splendid play. Nelson made repeated efforts to score, and on two occasions they got over, <but lost the ball. From a scrum near the line Lulham snapped up, and, working the blind side, ran clean over and scored. Westrupp failed to convert. Nelson 3, College nil. Nelson were still having the best of the play. Cressey made strenuous efforts to get the ball out to his backs, but his task was very difficult, owing to the continuous onrush of his bulky opponents, who simply smothered all attempts to set the College baoks in motion. However, College rallied and kept Nelson busy for some time. Brown got off-side and this gave College a difficult chance. Cundy's kick fell under the bar. Nelson forced play to midfield, when Holmes punted high, and followed up. Off-side j by Nelson gave College another difficult j shot, and Cundy landed a clean j goal. Nelson 3, College 3. The scores now being equal seemed to put new life into the game, and the ball travelled np and down the field in great style. Dando made a clever mark in front of the College goal, but Westrupp again failed to increase the score. Nelson were now playing particularly hard. A nice rush 'by Reed, Garvin, Hargreaves, and Curnow was stopped in touch near the line. From the throw out Hargreaves got; possession and kicked over, and Reed rushed over and touched down. Reed took the kick, but did not increase the score. Nelson 6, College 3. From the 25-out College again rallied, and almost scored on two occasions, and they had Nelson hard pressed till the conclusion of the game. Mr G. Logan was referee.
