< Females predominate in the roll of ihe Nelson electorate. Of the total number of 7452 names, 3982 are fhose of women, and 3470 men. Thus 53 per cent of the electors are women and 47 per cent men. Mr E. A. Lee cadet in the Justice Department at Nelson, has been transferred to Timaru, and leaves at the end of this month. Mr Alec. Louisson. succeeds Mr Lee at Nelson. ■ At the Girls' Central School yesterday afternoon, a presentation of a handsome electrjo-plated thermos flash was made by the pupils of the Sixth btandard to Miss V. C. Farnie, who is leaving, to take, up an appointment at the Akaroa High School. It is xinderstood that Miss. Farnie enters upon her new duties in connection with secondary work at that school next week. - Mr Walter Bird, of Waitapu, Golden Bay, has been advised that- his son Frank is returning by the Corinthic, due at Lyttelton about the 22nd inst. .Sergeant Frank Bird is one of the Main Body men. He took part in the Galiipoh landing on-'April 25th. 1915 an d was badly hurt; in August.,'. J On Saturday morning a rubbish fire! at Mr Jesse Piper's in Waimea road i spread to Mr A. C. Maginnity's property m Kawai street, and was assuming serious proportions when a number bl' helper, including College boarders arrived on. the scene, and; succeeded' in beating it out before it reached Mr Magmmty s house. In response to a telephone message,. Captain Dee and another .member of the Fire Brigade proceeded to the fire, but as it was well under control it was hot: necessary to summon the brigade. -While Mrs Piper was assisting to put out the fire, Lei-dress caught alight, and sße sustained some painful burns, which necessitated medical ;attentiqiu; .;.; ■:■■■; I"-/--..-..
