RESCUE OF THE TROOPS

New York, Jan. 2. The troops were landed from the transport Northern Pacific, which stranded on Fire Island. Fifteen fell into the surf, but were rescued.

Many soldiers were rescued by means of a breeches buoy. Four taken out of an overturned surf-boat were unconsdous when dragged out of the water by rescuing parties.
