Mrs Scott has been secretary for some years past, invited hor to an evening at i Mrs Harris' tea rooms and although it I was a v.;et, stormy night, the room was very comfortably filled with members. Refreshments were partaken of and Mr ■;W. H. Smith, the president of the chib, in a few well-chosen words requested the guest of the evening to accept from the members a silver cake dish, which was .suitably inscribed. The recipient was quite surprised but with her usual indomitable spirit soon rose to the occasion and in a very neat speech thanked one and nil for" the gift, which she ;.said would be valued as a token of their kindness. The Rev. A. H. Heron i was then asked to say a few words, | which he did .eulogising* the good qualities and great energy of the guest, whose place in so many tilings would he difficult to nil. j Mrs W. H. Buckman, as treasurer, also paid great tribute to the many good qualities of the departing guest, and a ■■very pleasant evening was brought to a close. ..! On Wednesday fright, a social and • ; dance^was held by the general public to < bid farewell to Mr and Mrs Scott and ■ I family, a large number of dancers'being ! in attendance, and the Town Hall was • the scene of a lively time till well on in •the "wee sma' hours." During the ' evening Mrs Scott, who has been a very . energetio member of the various patrit otic functions and one. who has always (been ready to help in any good work, ' was made the recipient of a gold wristlet watch and bracelet combined. 1 October 2nd.
