FINAL MEETING OF EXECUTIVE.

£22,500 FOR SICK AND WOUNDED SOLDIERS' FUND.

(From "Tho Colonist," Sept. sth.)

The final meeting ,of tho executive of the Silver Bullet Cannonade which was held in 1916 in aid of the Nelson Sick and Wounded Soldiers' Fund was hold last evening. There were present Mesrs E. J. Allen, J. Fitz-Gerald, Geo. Robertson, R. W. Stiles, Geo. Hogg, P. Bond, and Walter Snodgrass (hon. sec). In the unavoidable absence of Mr H. R. Duncan (chairman), Mr Bond was voted to the chair. Apologies were received from other members of the executive, and several were absent from Nelson.

It will.be remembered that the Cannonade was inaugurated for the purpose of raising £25,000 in order to place the Sick and Wounded Soldiers' Fund on an adequate financial basis. In the course of the campaign a consfderable amount of the money donated' was made on deferred payments extending over a period .of' two-.years. The last of these payments became due yesterday, and tho meeting was called for last night to pass accounts, etc., and make a report to the Advisory Board of the Sick and Wounded Soldiers' Fund.

The secretary presented the balancesheet, which showed that a sum of £22,----800 had been handed over to the Sick and Wounded ,Soldiers' Fund and £250 contributed to the Lady Liverpool Fund, and that tho expenses had not exceeded 2;",- per cent, of the 'amount raised. The total amount to credit of the Sick and Wounded Soldiers' Fund in round numbers amounts to £33,000, so that it is readily seen how important a part the Silver Bullet Cannonade played in placing this fund in its present satisfactory position. The' secretary explained that the audit (made by Mr J. E. Milner) was practically completed, but time did not permit of the audit being actually completed since receipt of the final payments due. He also explained that there was still a small amount overdue which was, ■however, to be reckoned as good. After consideration of the-statement of accounts, it was resolved, on the motion of Mr E. J. Allen, seconded by Mr It. W. Stiles, that the balance-sheet be passed subject t> the completion of audit.

On the motion of Mr Fitz-Gerakl, seconded by Mi- Robertson, it was resolved that the balance-sheet be published as an advertisement in both the Nelson papers, and that the preparation and lodgment for inspection of detailed statements in connection therewith be,left in the hands of the secretary. Reference was made to the tremendous amount of work carried but by the hon. secretary, and, on the motion of Mi- Stiles, seconded by Mr Allen, a hearty vote of thanks was accorded Mr Snodgrass, and with that the proceedings were brought to a close.
