FIRES.

About 2 o'clock yesterday afternoon a, fire occurred at a house in Wellington. strt'e- owned by Mr J. Hollyman and occupied •by ?rir Reginald Boyce. The* Fire Brigade responded promptly to the* alarm, and on arrival the seat of the* fire was located at the back of .thestove, the outbreak having apparently been caused by a defective chimney. Before the Sre could be suppressed it> was found necessary to remove themantelpiece and several sheets of iron from the roof. Damage to the extentof about £10 was done. The house was insured, in the Sun office for -£400, and the furniture in the New Zealand office* for £150. The reel was taken to ; -.tho. fire b v a Coniinercial Garage car jn a remarlvably space of time.
September lGth. A fire at Hope on Thursday afternoon destroyed a, stable and hay loft belonging to Mr. J. Coleman, together with their contents. Mr. Coleman had been, burning gorse in the vicinity, and it is believed that the outbreak was caused by a spark, as the wind was blowing; in the direction of the stable. There, was an insurance in the Alliance office, for £100.
