ACCIDENTS.

A paiiiCul accident befell a* girl named Edna Moves, aged 12, a daughter of Mr C. Moves, in Halifax street after school yesterday afternoon. With her sister she was playing round a telegraph post, against which a bicycle was leaning. By some means she got caught in the bicycle, with the result that her right leg was broken above the ankle, bhe ■was attended by Dr. Washbourn, who ordered her removal to the Hospital.

Ssptember sth. While a young mar* named Theodore Kenning, employed.by his brother, Mr W. A. Kenning, garage proprietor, was cranking a motor car in Trafalgar street .it about 5 o'clock yesterday evening, it back-fired. Kenning's arm was struck by the handle and both bones w.erebroken. MrJ. A serious accident was narrowly averted at the railway crossing at Saltwater bridge on Monday afternoon. A taxi, driven by Mr J. Pauling, was proceeding aloug Halifax street in the direction of Haven road } when an engine and van were noticed coming from the railway yards towards the bridge. The driver of the taxi applied the brakes, but was unable to bring the ear to a standstill in time to avoid a collision and the car struck the engine. The impact was not very severe, and slight damage only was done to the forepart of the car, one tyre being cut,'the axle bent, and one mudguard crumpled. The lamps were not broken. Neither tho driver nor the passengers, Messrs W. S. Horrocks (of Port Nelson) W. ' Rioux (of French Pass) and W. Stone (of Tahunanui)' were injured. The car was travelling slowly and failure of tho brakes to grip properly was probably the cause of its not being pulled up beiSfe the collision. None of the occupants of the car heard the whittle of tho^ engine. September ioth. A lad named Ivan Fleming, aged 7 y a son of Mr. W. 18. .Fleming, of Cambria street, was going home from school on Friday afternoon with some other children wlien he slipped and broke his. right leg between the knee and tho thigh. He was admitted to the Hospital, whero lie is getting on well. A workman named OUmes Lancaster, employed at the Tarakohe cemenfcworks, was seriously injured last Thursday morning thorough a quantity [of coal falling on him. It is believed j that his wpine was fractured. He was brought to the Nelson Hospital, where his condition remains much the same as when he was admitted.
