BRITISH ADVANCE IN FLANDERS.
Patrol actions north of the SOMME. CONTINUED FRENCH PROGRESS. CAPTURE OF VAILLY. (Australian and N.Z. Cable Association and Hester.) London, Sept. 16. Sir Douglas Haig reports:— There were successful minor operations last night astride the Ypres-Co-mines Canal. We advanced our line on a front of "two miles, and captiired a number of prisoners and machine guns. There have been raiding and patrol encounters at Mpeuvres and Gavrelle. We have established new posts in the vicinity of Auchy, Caughy, and Oppy.' A French communique reports:— Between the Oise and the Aisne we continued to make-progress. We carried Mont Designes. Further'south we captured Vailly. FURTHER ADVANCE IN THE NORTH. and N.Z. Cable' Association and Renter.) --(Received Sept. 18, 1.55. a.m.) London, Sept. 16. Sir Douglas Haig reports :— On the southern portion of the front our patrols brought in a few prisoners. Wo slightly advanced the line in the neighbourhood of Ploegsteert, eastward ■of Ypres. .
