(Received Sept. 5, 7.30 p.m.) | London, Sept. 4. ; The Admiralty reports:— .: Between August 26th and September ; < Ist aeroplanes working with the Navy carried out successful raids at Ostend • and Zeebrugge, dropping thirteen tons ■ of bombs with excellent results. Large : fires being started. Two direct hits were obtained on an anti-aircraft batterj', .and there were many bursts at the docks.
Reuters correspondent at American Headquarters writes:—The long, stubborn struggle during the past week on Soissons Plateau has been crowned with victory, in which some of the best German divisions have been put out of \ action by the French and American j troops. We are now in possession of! the plateau. ' i The enemy incurred ,the heaviest: losses in their endeavour to check our j i progress, especially the ' Prussian; I Guards, whose dead were piled np after i five futile counter-attacks. 1 . ■

As the result of yesterday's fighting, we greatly strengthened our position along the Ailette, and brought the lines within a few miles of the line held before the last German advance over the Cliemin-des-Dames. What the enemy considered their first 1i%3 of defence in that region is now entirely in French hands.
