APPALLING DISASTER AT
MACKAY
TOWN ENTIRELY SUBMERGED.
Brisbane, Jan. 28. The latest news from Mackay stated that the town is in ruins. Ttere is not gas or water supply, and the town. 59 under polic9 control. Heavy rain is still falling. The master of the steamer Arawattal reports that he remained in the vicinity, but saw no sign of the town, only ai vast sheet of water. It is feared that a calamity of enormous magnitude las befallen Mackay, with appalling loss of life.
