New York, Oct. 16. The "New York World's" Washington correspondent says that the United States is paying forty million dollars daily or one-fourth of the; cost of the war. America's expenditure is tho highest; Britain^ second, and Germany's third. Air authoritative statistical estimate-' 'of the total cost to August, 1918, is 15i s billion dollars.
