Speaking at the re-union of the Settlers in the Wellington Town HaJl on Monday evening, Archbishop. Itedwood gave some interesting and amusing sidelights on life in the days when he, with his family, first ianded: m Nelson. He described the first racemeetings, and stated that he remembered travelling to one in a bullockwaggon, which contrasted rather strangely with the comfortable means or travel available to-day. After starting early in the morning and putting in the whole day -at the place of sport they had returned home at midnightrie described a race in which Maoris had participated, and said that, with their tatoo-marks raid wild faces, they made a most grotesque showing.
