DAFFODIL QUEEN CARNIVAL.
&ET PROCEEDS OVER t4275.
A meeting of the General Committee or the recent Daffodil Queen Carnival in aid of trench comforts for soldiers was held at the City Council Chambers last night, the Mayor' (IMr W. \V. Snodgrass) in the chair.
A statement of accounts in connection with ilie carnival was presented. It gave the following hgures:—Gross takings, £4397 6s 4d; expenses, £121. 18s 8d; credit balance, £427 C7s "Bd.. The result was - very favourably commented on by members present. The recent very successful Daffod'l Queen Carnival in aid of the Lady LiI verfpooi Fund's work of sending gilts to our soldiers was the occasion of a ga--thering of workers m the cause at the Haeremai Tea Rooms last night. With, games and music the evening passed1, pleasantly, and a dainty supper was served. Contributors to the concert part,of tho programme included the. Nelson Concert Orchestra, the .Nelson. Male Quartette, Miss Hanby, Mrs Moynihan, Miss Joyce, Messrs A. G. Betts, Brady, E. Dimant,.and Sid Bush.. Opportufiity was taken.to present Mesrdames Crawford and Pogson with small, souvenirs of the carnii-al. in recognitiouT of their specially valuabls services during its progress. The souvenirs, wliich. were subscribed for. by members of th» committee, took the ' form of gold broocles/each bearing;theinitials of its, recipient... Miss Madge Oldershaw was., also presented with a locket inscribed, with her name and.the.date of her election as Queen of the Carnival. All. three ladies were warmly accorded musical honours. The gatner'ng conclude ed with the National. Anthem.
