FIRE BRIGADE.

ANNUAL MEETING

Sept-ember 22nd. Tho annual meeting of file Nelson Volunteer Fire Brigade was held at the Station last evening, Captain ward presiding. The chairman, in addressing tho members, said it was 51 years that day aince the Brigade \va-s1 formed, and te spoke of the manner in which the Brigade had improved. He had been a membor of the Brigade for 30 3*esrs, for 11 years as captain, and fr" members •felt confidence in him he wa« willing to continue ill office untile tho war was over. Hs" mentioned that there had be-on several heavy fires during the year, and spoke of v the splendid work done by the .young members.

Officers wcmto elected as follows:- — Captain, T. Woodward; lieutenant, A.Dec; foreman No. 1 reel, H. Stewart; foreman No. 2 reel, J. Nesbitt; foreman hook ancl ladder, W. Woodward; uecrt'tary, E. E. Boyes; treasurer, J. E. Hounsel!'; hon. «\irgeon, Dr. Bett. ' After tho formal business members snoni- t!ie remainder of the evening socially. Several tosats were honoured^ .including'that of "Members at the Front." In this connection, it 'was stated that 13 members o-f tho Brigade* were or: active service, and i-wo had laioE down, their lives. From the Brigades throughout New Zealand, 1030 firemen! lifid crone to the front, 87 had been kifl-» led. 116 wounded. 2 prisoners of war,? and 66 invalided home.
