NEXT MONDAY'S FETE

MEETING OF GENERAL COM-

MITTEE

A meeting was held last cvoning of tho Special General Committee which has in hand the arrangements for the "Our Day" lied Cross "Fete to be held on Monday next in the Government' Buildings Grounds.

There was a. satisfactory attendance. Mrs Win. Lock in the chair.

Mr Lock explained that his special prize was not ottered for the most ori-ginal-character, but for the best character representation quite irrespective of tho matter of originality.

Mr Hayes reported that the City Council, through the Mayor, had consented to provide an ongine for; driving the dynamo, and it was reported that the engine offered was most- satisfactory for the work. It was resolved that in order to facilitate tho lighting it be a suggestion that the cafe be located on the west side of the building; also that the suggestion that the supper should be "stand up" could not be approved, as it would do 'away with tho cafe cbantanfc eifect aimed at. | Mr E. Allan reported that the concert was well organised. Mr F. N. Jones reported that there j were a number of side shows arranged for,., the--chief difficulty being to get male helpers to run them. There would be a new form of merry-go-round, which he thought would be a good draw. He suggested That special eitorts should be exerted to attract the children, get all the children possible. It was resolved to have a list published of prizes for decorated procession itcnib, etc. Tlie chairwoman wished it emphasised that those who were entering for the decorated chair competition couid obtain the chairs free of charge. It was resolved to invite donations of cakes, sweets, articles for the bran tubs, etc., and special mention was made of the cake competition. It was resolved that donations of aIH kinds may be left at Hallensteins' i rooms-- all day Saturday and on Mon- J day morning, jmd at Mr Lock's, Mr E. Smallbone's, tho Fort, iind Mr Fill's, Stoke. It was resolved that all those intending to enter for the procession and competitions be requested to hand in their names by Friday at 6 p.m. This does not involve that entries close at that h;,ur, but it would be a convenience to thorio making the arrangements to have this information. JWntries will bo received by tho secretary, and at the establishments of Messrs Trathen and C,0., W- Lock, F. ,N. Jones, and Auckland Clothing Co. It was resolved to ask the bands to | meet at the Liverpool- .Room at a quar- \ ■ter to two in the afternoon and at the: grounds' in tho evening. | It. was .resolved to ask the Fire Bri-; gade to take part in the procession in the-afternoon, and make an exhibit j also. . . ■ The chairwoman wished it to be well understood that the evening carnival woukL be a masquerade.

Jn connection with the cake -competition, Mrs M. J. Lew ivjis ,\ appointed jadge. Mesdames Tu.rner and F. N. Jones were appointed a subcommittee to -tuke charge of the entries.

ckled upon: Trade .Aiiibit, most original poster, decorated chair, original! chair, 'decorated hilly cart, hard-up billy cart, decorated boy's bicycle, decorated girl's bicycle, decorated pram or go-cart, decorated umbrella, best representation! of a character, largest amount secured by sales from a billy cart or chair, hardup character, decorated basket/ best dressed doll. Those who may enter for the chair competitions, etc., should bear in mmd that the contents Tor sale will be &upplietl by the committee.
