The enemy made a great effort by means of counterattacks to recapture Bulleeourt and the section of the Hindenburg line held by the British east of the village. Pour attack* were unsuccessfully undertaken, the enemy losing heavily. On the Erench front a violent German attack in the Chemin-des-Dames region was broken by artillery barrage, 'i'tie' bombardment continues on the whole front. The Erench and Serbian advance continues in Macedonia, and successful Italian operations on the Isonzo front are reported. General Nivt-lle has been succeeded in the Erench command by General Petain. In the Beicbstig the Chancellor made a statement declining to formulate Germany's war aims or peace terms. He declared that the military situation was favourable.
