A Russian communique states: We drove back an enemy attack on the west bank of the Stokhod.

Our advance on the Upper Sereth continues. The cner-iy has retired westward. Fierce artillery fire from behind fortified positions checked our advance.

We have arrived before the Zlota Lipa, and have continued our pursuit, reaching the north bank of the Dniester, before Mariampol. ■

We repelled local attacks everywhere in the Carpathians, and we captured some positions.
