HOME RULE.

MEMORANDUM FROM MR REDMOND.

PROTEST AGAINST BELAY.

SFJiIOUS SITUATION ALLEGED.

(Australian anfo.z. Cable Association)

(Received July 21, 9 p . m .)

, r o . London, July 20. Mr Redmond on Tuesday sent the following memorandum to Mr Asquith and Mr Lloy<2 George:— / "I feel bound to tell you that the long deky in making public the text of the Insh Bill and the uncertainty and irritation caused by Lord Lansdowne's speech have created a most serious situation in Ireland. In mv opinion further delay makes a settlement on the lines laid down by Mr Lloyd George quite impossible. "When the terms were originally submitted we strongly urged' him t© use ah possible despatch, and in consulting our supporters in Ireland we told them that great lmpenai interests were at stake. Three weeks have elapsed and no progress has been made. For some mysterious reason the matter which was- so urgent five weeks ago now hangs fire.

"I therefore urge upon the Government that- further-delay will be fatal, and record roy conviction that any proposal to depart from the terms agreed upon, especially with respect to the strictly temporary and provisional character of all the sections of the Bill, will compel us to declare that. the agreement on the faith of which we obtained the assent of our supporters in Ireland,, has been departed; from and is at an end."
