WORKS COMMITTEE.

The "Works Committee reported: ■ On letter from District Health Officer: | (a) Messrs Greenslade's tannery: That as there is no sewer at present, the Committee cannot' make auy recommendation except that the matter stand over until the proposed drainage extension has been carried out, in v/hich case Messrs Greenslade and Co. be given notice to connect with the new sower when laid, (b) From Dodson'.s brewery and malthouse": The Committee also recommends that this matter be deferred until the drainage extension has been completed, and that notice be then given to Messrs Dodson and Son to connect with tho new sewer when laid. They also recommend that the Town Clerk obtain the opinion of counsel to the Municipal Association an: to whether the Council can make any charge for pumping waste water discharged into the seAvor from a 1 rew cry or factory. On letter from residents Richmond Avenue, requesting the erection of lamp: That a lamp bo erected. On letter from Messrs Adams and Hariey, requesting the exemption of part of Weka street from the operation of section 117 of the Public Works Act, 1908: That a resolution exempting the portion of the street from Tasman to CollingAvood street on tho south side be passed. On letter from Messrs Pitt and Moore, forwarding plan of land adjoining cemetery for approval: That the plan be approved and the purchase completed. On lettei from residents Nile street East as to condition of footpath: That the street be filled up and a footpath formed. On letter from Mr, F. Elvy as to condition of footpath, Van Dieman street: That the work recon-. mended by the City Engineer be carried out at once, cost about 355. On letter from secretary.Pitt Memorial Committee re Pitt memorial fence: That the fence be completed as far as the £47 contribute: 1, by the Pitt Memorial Committee v.ill allow, and that the fence be repaired and painted between Bridge street aid the Suter Art Gallery as already arranged. That Mr G. Miller being tho lowest tenderer for the memorial fence, be given the work in connection therewith. . As to taxi-cabs conveying hose reels to fires: That they have no ' recommendation to make. As to road |at Cemetery: That the portion.of the new road and fence to be made in accordance . with the agreement .with Mi Opie be put in hand at once, but that the question of forming the remainder of the road be deferred until funds Avil] permit. As to Inspector of Nuisance--report on Mr Moorhouse's property: That the Committee finds that no nuisance exists at present. As to rio-h level weir: That whilst tho Committee recognises that it is advisable that there should be a greater supply oi water in the summer in order to cope with the dry season, it is of opinion that the raising of the weir 17 feetinaccoix'ance with Mr Jickell's scheme would not.be it solution of the difficulty. As to Anzac Park: That the ditch 're covered over as far as the Sr- Vincent street culvert in the same mawier as ■ the part which has already been c.ver|ed in. As to Church Hill: That the City Engineer be instructed to obtain a. further supply of rhododendrons.
