ARBORIAL COMMITTEE.

The Arboriai Committee .reported as follows: —That they recommend that the following tree planting he carried out: Basin Reserve: Three or fouf Norfolk Island pines inside the Basin, and some Norfolk Island pines and matapo trees near the Basin. Trafalgar Street South: A few of the cabbage trees to bo removed and replaced with lime trees. Sands Reserve: Forty or fifty phms "mnricata or pinus maritime trees to 6e .planted on the outer sands. Grampian Hills: Twenty-five or fifty pines or macrocarpa ""trees. Stanley Crescent: Three or four, clumps of n.acrocarpa or bluegum trees. Britannia Heights : The Committee recommend that some planting be done on Britannia Heights as soon as the question of the road is settled. Waterworks reserve: That some planting be carried out on the Waterworks Reserve next season, and that in the meantime the ground be got ready. Mr H. G. Kingsland wrote, offering to sell and plant trees at the Sands Reserve. ' -

The letter was referred to the Committee with power to act. " The report was adopted!

BY-LAWS COMMITTEE.

The By-laws Committee reported:— (a) That the Drainage By-law, as drafted by the City Engineer, be recommended for adoption. That it be put into the hands of the printer, and that each Councillor be supplied with a proof sheet, and allowed a fortnight for considering same, at the end" of which time, subject to any amendments, the By-law be..finally printed. That the following bf-laws also be adopted: Dogs on cycle tracks, carrying passengers on bicycles: ' The report was adopted. CITY ENGINEER'S REPORT, The City Engineer's report dealt with routine matters. GAS ENGINEER'S REPORT. The Gas Engineer (Mr A. Neil) reported that coal carbonized during the mouth totalled 391 tons 4cwt. The -as manufactured was 4,956,300 cubic feet, or 12,699 cubic feet per ton of coal. The illuminating power was 17 candle power.. .There were in stock l-M bags coke and 14,500 gallons of *?£, Sates of residua* amounted to £201 6s 6d.
