THE SHARPSHOOTERS.

A very successful concert was held in the Lower Moutere Hall on Wednesday .evening. JVlr. IT. Buckeridge pre-side-d over a largo attendance. Messrs. A. I. Manoy, W. Coppins, W. H. Mander, and McCarthy kindly provided motor cars to convey Motueka. visitors. The chairman, in bis opening remarks, stressed the fact that money was needed to meet the just claims of those who had gone to the front to fight for us. He had that day been informed by the •secretary of the Motueka Retiirned Soldiers' Association that the Nelson executive of the Sick and Wounded Soldiers' Fund had paid out money to those, who were in need of assistance. As the Avar went on money and more money would be required to help the brave fellows who had fought to protect our lives and homes. The combined committees were arranging for a big field day in Motueka on the 26th inst. The ladies' committee had requested him to solicit contributions of potatoes, meat, .etc., for the luncheon to be provided under their supervision. [He also solicited gifts of produce for that day to be disposed of, the proceeds going to swell the funds of the Sharp-! shooters army. Those contributing to .the harmony of the evening were Mesdames Ovens and Craighead, Misses Crichton and Stanton, Messrs. G. H. Budden, Whittington, Wm. Ovens, S. Canavan, and Hanstock. At the conclusion of the concert-Mr. H. B. Sanders, the chairman of the local committee, thanked the gentlemen who had provided the cars to bring the visitors, also the Motueka people who so kjndly came forward to assist at the concert. A similar compliment was paid to Mr. Buckeridge for presiding over the gathering. The Lower Moutere holies' committee kindly provided supper for the visitors.

Messrs. Stilwell and Co., Ltd., have kindly offered to provide timber free of charge and erect same for the stalls in connection with the Carnival on the 26th inst. The firm have also kindly made a model of Hill £25,000. The staff of Messrs. Manoy and" Sons, Ltd. (drapery department), are putting on the finishing touches, the firm providing material for background, flags, etc. The hill is placed in the window" of the furnishine; - -department, next to the Motueka 'Post Office.
