WeMngton, April 25. The Educational Institute at its annual meeting has revised its constitution in the direction of giving the right of separate existence to subbranches of the district institutes.

The annual report of the Institute stated that consequent on the passing of the Education Act,'the number of education districts had been reduced to nine. It was a matter for regret that this question should be handled in so inadequate a manner by the powers i;>t rule us, but at least it could be said that a beginning had been made, and that the jnstituto had a certain measure of success to encourage it in advocating still further reform. The following officers were elected •- President, Mr W. Fairey; vice-presi-dent, Mr L. F. De Berry; secretary, Mr H. A. Parkinson; treasurer, Mr E U. Just.

Non-official members of the execn'ive were elected as follows:—North Island, Mr H. W. Newton; Wellington district, Mr A. Erskine; South " Island, Mr O. D. Flamank.

A remit was adopted ttrging the amendment of section 79, sub-section 7. of the Act, so that in the event of a school in Grade I. or a higher grade ¥?i g chan Seel in grade no teacher shall suffer a reduction in salary or allowance on that account. lt^was'resolyod, by 28 votes-to 27, to affiliate with tho council of the NewZealand State Servants'" Association, and Messrs H.
