THE GLENHOPE DISMISSALS

MINISTER MAKING INQUIRIES.

Recently certain . allegations werei made by workmen employed at Glenhope that t'l/Cy were taken to Sandy Bay. and asked to work at a less rate, of pay than they were receiving at Glenhope. Being dissatisfied, they returned to Glenhope, where, it is stated, they were; refused employment. Th& matter was referred to the Public AVorks Department, when the allegation in regard to the lower rate of pay at Sandy Bay was denied, although ife was admitted that the men were refused employment on their return to> GWihope, it being the rule that if men will not work for the Department at oiut place they cannot get work at another.- A copy of the article containing the complaint, and the explanation of tli© Public Works Department,, which .appeared in these columns, was forwarded by Mr T. A. H. Field, M.P., to the. Minister for Public Works, who has replied that he is obtaining a itport on the matter.
