The Salvation Army Institute for Returned Soldiers was opened this afternoon by Sir Joseph Ward in the presence of a large gathering. Captain Shearer is in charge of the institute: Colonel Powley stated that the ,1a nd and buildings had cost £396, improve-, ments .£l5O, and fittings £70. An appeal for financial support ■V-resujte'cl "in, £50 being contributed by the audience. Speeches were' made qompHmentaryY-to the Salvation Army's work in the v war. The building^' which formerly was. a shop, contains sitting and recreation rooms, a tearoom, kitchen, and buffet, and is comfortably furnished.
