ANNUAL MEETING

The annual meeting of tho Nbi*ou Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals held in Messrs Rout and Sons' room yesterday afternoon. -Bishop Mules (president) occupied the chair. . Apologies were received from Mrs (Dr.) Beet (who enclosed donation of £1) a-nd Mr and Mrs C. E. Molesworth. Tho annual report was read and adopted. The report stated that seveh^ teen complaints had been received and investigated, as follows:—Ill-treating horses 9, cattle 2, dogs 3, poultry 2, bares 1. This number was considerably less ohan usual. At tho request of several members of the society, representatives were present at the recent ■coursing meeting, but, while not holding with the sport, they could find no cause for action. Thanks were-tender-led to tho police for assistance given, and to Mrs and Miss Gibbs for colledincr on behalf of the society. Th" balance-shoot, which skowed a credit balance of £61 8s scl, was read o.tid adopted.
