RED CROSS COMMITTEE.

\ general committee meeting in conlectiqn with the Red Crass Fund was xeld in Hallensteins' rooms yesterday. Mrs. W. Lock was in the chair, aud about twenty members were present. The chief matter discussed was the opening of the Red Oro&s room. Mr. Thcrae has kindly lent a sample room in Bridge street opposite Healy'fs boot arcade. The room has been well cleaned out and disinfected, and with a little furnishing will be ready for use. An anonymous donor has given curtains for the shelves, and Miss N. Gilkiscn has promised to stencil, the curtains with the names of the different garments kept in the shelves. The following ladies are giving gifts to the room i Miss Richmond, 1 broom: Mrs. (Dr.) Washbourn, 1 kettle; -Mis. y. ■■King, half-dozen cups and saucers and teapot;-Mrs. Crawford, soap and scrubbing brush; Mrs. Eastcott 2 hand towete, 2 tea towels; Mrs. Brundell, dusters and gas ring; Mrs. Hayes, matting for. floor; Mrs, Vining, asbestos to stand gas ring'on, sugar, basin, and half-dozen teaspoons; Miss Marsden, cupboard; Mns. Lock will lend 1 dozen "chairs and a table; Mrs. R. Fell, an iron for pressing. The roomwiljihe opened on Monday August 9th; hours, every day 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Tuesday and Thursday afternoon 2.30 till 4. All parcels "fcr the Red Cross cheats may be left at the room from August 9th onwards. Members of the committee are requested whenever possible to be present when the room is opened, to get on with the necessary work. ' Mrs. C. R. Her resignation was received with regret, as she has been a rr;ost useful member of the committee It was reported that Mr. Falvey, of the Lyric Theatre, had. considerately postponed his Red Cross benefit nifrht., as it clashed with the concert f->r the Sick and Wounded SoldieiV Fund, 'till Monday.
