The officers of the Nelson Hibernian Society met Mr W. T. Ward, Chief Postmaster, on- Saturday, and on behalf of the society presented him with a silver-motmted walking stick, suitably inscribed, a& a. small token of the esteem in which he-is held by the members The president, Mr William McGregor, in making the presentation, said that the Hibernian Society were very sorry indeed that Mr Ward was leaving them, as ho had always been or great assistance to the branch ever since its inception in Nelson. On behalf of the members, he wished to congratulate Mr Ward on his well-earned promotion to be Chief Postmaster or Christchnrch. and wished bun every success in his new sphere. Mr M. J. Low also congratulated Mr Ward or his promotion, at the pa me tune oxpressing his regret that Mr \vard was leaving them. He wished to bay on behalf of the entertainment commutee of the society, that they woiud mifes him very miK-h. as ho had assisted them in'mpny ways. Messrs AnnsS", T>y!e^ and L. Ward endorsed the-remarks-of the pievious speakers. Mr Ward: in1 replying, thanked the bocfev for their present, and for the kind remarks expressed by the president and officers. A parting presentation has also been made to Mr. Ward by the Catholic'parishioners.
