ANNUAL MEETING.

The annual meeting of the Nelson Horticultural Society was held at the Institute last. Evening, tliG president (Mr B. H. .Yloller) in the chair and about fifteen members present. Three now members were elected, and one resignation was accepted with regret. The honorary treasurer (Mr J. Wigzoll) presented a statement «f receipts and expenditure, which showed the total receipts, including £28 brought forward, to have been £138.95, and the expenditure to have been" less than that amount by £56 11s. Assets were shown to bo worth £106 without any liabilities. '

T3ie president, in moving the adoption of the statement, said that the society was Ja a■'better ■position financially than at any period of its esisstence. He attributed much of the success to the good work of the lion, treasurer.

Mr. Day, in seconding the motion, endorsed Mr.Holler's remarks with regard to- Mr Wigzell, and added that tile president himself had contributed to the happy result by his untiring efforts. ■:';■": '

An offer was received from Mr H. Saunders, proprietor of the Empire Theatre, to provide facilities for hdjding the society's shows ati the Empire Theatre. He offered to do the advertising in connection with the shows so held, and to hand to the society an average "gate," so that the society; would be on a safe financial basis.

The president further explained the proposal, adding that, previous to the letter coming in the society had already agreed to let the Sick and Wounded Soldiers' Fund Committee conducts one or more shows in conjunction with the Society. General approval was expressed. in. regard to Ma* Saunders's scheme, and it was decided that the matter, of Mr Saunders's offer and that'of holding a show or shows in conjunction with the Sick .and Wounded Soldiers' Fund be lefr. to a special committee, consisting of the president, Messrs Wigzell, A. ~E. Tasker, W. H. Simpson, T. S. Merrick, G. M. Rout, and J. A. Day. ■Officers were elected as follows:— Patron, Mr F. .H. Richmond (re-elect-ed) ; president, Mr B. H. It was resolved to hold four shows during the 3ear. the dates of thos» other than the bulb show to bo fixed by the schedule committee.

A special vote otf thanks was passed to the hon. treasurer for his exceptionally valuable services.
