EXPLOSION AT GLENHOPE.
MAN SERIOUSLY INJURED.
(From "The Colonist," July 14.) A man named Ned Ritchie, employed by the Public Works Department on the railway constructionjivorks at Glenhope, was-seriously injured by a premature explosion at about 3.30 yesterday afternoon. Ritchie and another.man named Kearns w,ere engaged in blasting rock, and had just placed some gelignite in a hole, when it exploded. They were both thrown a considerable distance, but Kearns escaped with bruises. Ritchie, however, suffered a compound fracture of the left leg, and severe injuries to both eyes. A request was sent to- Nelson for medical assistance, and Dr. Bett went to the scene in a motor car. Ritchie was brought to town by special train, arriving here just before midnight, accompanied by the doctor and Mr. Robert Marr, of the Public Works Department's staff. The injured man was conveyed in the ambulance van from the railway station to the Hospital. •
