MAITAI CLUB.

ANNUAL MEETING.

(From "The Colonist," June 29.) I The annual meeting of the Maitai Bowling Club was held at the Co-opera-tive Rooms last night, when Mi* G. F. Dodds presided over a good attendance. The- annual report was as follows: — The green was opened for play on Saturday, September 19th, 1914, and was closed on Wednesday, May 19th, 1915. The green was in perfect playing order right throughout the season, and reflects great credit on the caretaker {Mr W. Tombiiii) foiviis care and attention. '

Club Competitions: As usual there were good entries, and with the exception of the Wednesday Pairs- the competitions were all keenly contested. The competitions and winners were as follows:— v ■ . "

H. Simpson, J. E. Allen (s). Wednesday Pairs (11 pairs): No interest seemed to be taken in this competition, and games were far from completed. Tho committee decided that, owing to no satisfactory conclusion being arrived at, tho trophies bei not awarded this season. Club Pairs, sealed handicap (20 pairs, 2 sections) • Winners, A. J. Stringer and G. A. Court-(s). Champion Pairs, 14 heads (16 pairs, 2 sections): This competition excited the most^interest. of .any games played during the season, and it is to be regretted that, owing to the lateness in starting, time did not permit- of its be--1112; completed. Throe pairs—Culder and G. Simpson, Laird and Glover, and Hounsell and Thorn —tied, arid the prize money will be divided pro rata. Novice Pairs <J pairs): The same remark applies to this competition, and three pairs--Stallard and Eades, Hurley and Logan, and McLean and Marston—finished a tic. Johnston Buttons: A largo number of these games were played, and, according to the conditions laid down, A. J. Stringer and J. K. Johnston (s), who were holders at the beginning of the season, still retain the Buttons, having the greatest number of consecutive wins, Christmas Day Rinks (8 rinks, 2 sections): Winners, A. Dee, G. Logar., Court, and E. Richards (s) Boxing Day Pairs (15 pairs): This competition is unfinished, A. Dee and W. Dee and A. Richards and Lockwood being left in. Anniversary Day Pairs (3 pairs): Winners. According to tho conditions governing this competition, the- Nelson Club, having won the last match, hold the Pennant till next season. Aggregate points scored: Maitai 756. Nelson 686. Le-aper Shield. The club won the whole of the six mat-ches played. Aggregate points: Maitai 492, Nelson 419. Field Trophy, for Wednesday play (rinks): This was played for on six occasions, Nelson winning four games and Maitai two.

Centre Tournament: This was held on the local greens at the New Year, the club being represented by 8 rinks and 12 pairs, and annexing the runner-up prize in both events, the players being: Rinks—E. Richards, Lock wood, 6. M. Simpson, and Calder (s) ; Fairs—C. M. Whelan and S. I°. Sherwood (s).

Easter Tournament. The usual social tournament was held at Easter time, and was a great success ii. every way. A large number of visiting rinks took part, several clubs being represented for the first time, but we have reason to believe from remarks passed by the visitors, the' visits are likely to be continued. The weather was all that could be desired, and the greens were in good playing order. Two feet on the mat rule: The Dominion Council has referred this matter to the affiliated clubs for an expression of opmion, and you will be asked at tin's meeting to say whether the club is in favour of the new rule, or play under the old system. The committee desire to offer the best thanks o? the club to Messrs A. R. Richards, G. Gluver, and J. K. Johnston, and Mr and Mrs T. McGilliyray, for their great kindness in providing afternoon teas during the Easter Tournament; 'also to the Press for their liberal reports, and support of the game through tho season. T,.he statement of receipts and expenditure for the year 19J4-15 showed that the bank overdraft had been reduced to £27 4s Id. The report and the- balance-sheet were adopter]. Two gentlemen handed in three and two debentures respectively, and were thanked for their gifts. In connection with a recommendation contained in a letter from the Nelson Bawling Club, opinions were expressed in favour of continuing to have six Pennant and Leaper Shield matches in the season and it was stated that the Maitai Club could not put six rinks in for the Shield matches. It was unanimously resolved that the letter be referred back to the Nelson Club for reconsideration, the Maitai Club being in favour of the conditions for both contests remaining as in previous years. "With regard to" the Centre's request for an .expression of opinion on the two feet nn the mat rule, Mr J. M. Calder moved that the club agree with ilie rule. Mr S. F.
