An old resident of Marlborough in the person of Mr. Walter Liehfiekl passed away" at the Picton hospital on Friday at the age of 68 years. Deceased was a draper at Blenheim and Picton for many years, and after retiring from business took up farming pursuits. He had been in a delicate state ■of health for some months past.

The Rev. Father F. Bartley, S.M., M.A., of the faculty of St. Patrick's •College, who has lately returned from a trip to Australia, has been transferred to Nelson as assistant priest. The Rev Father Bartley, who is a Now Zealand scholar of mental science, has neon on the teaching staff of St. Patrick's College, Wellington, for the past ton v^ars. He belongs, to a well known Victorian family, king brother of Rev. J. Bartley, 8.A., of Melbourne, and Dr Bartley. of the same, city, ana of the Rev. C. Bartley, 0.5.M., of Sydney. The Rev. Father Bartley will 'arrive in Nelson to-day.

Mr. Peter Hunter, who for many years was iv the Post and Telegraph Department, died at Birkeaheacl, Auckland, on Friday last. Deceased, who was about seventy-five- years of age, was for many yeans stationed at Miranda. He was afterwards transferred to Collingwood, and remained there until he retired from fche service. .During the Maori War he was associated with the late Mr? Alex. Brodie (afterwards chairman of the Thames Ccuinty Council) in laying down military telegraphs in the disturbed districts in the Auckland province. Mr. i Hunter has left a widow, two sons, and four daughters, one of whom is postmistress at Birkenhead.
