An atrocious tragedy occurred at Stanmore, resulting in the deaths of Sirs. Tucker and her brother, Ernest Matheson, and the attempted suicide of the murderer, John Thomas Tucker. According to the story told by Tucker's' fifteen-year-old son, tho father was recently sent to gaol for not complying with a "maintenance order. Returning home, he gained admittance by a windew, tied his wife to a bedpost, where she" remained all night, while ho himself slept, also keeping tho boy in the room. Matheson called next morning, and was admitted by Tucker. Threatening him with a revolver, ho mado the boy bind Matheson's eyes and hands, and Tucker then beat Matheson on the head with the butt of the revolver till he was dead. Tucker returned to bed, and slept throughout the day. The boy, worn out by watching, was awakened in the night by his mother's cries. He found his father beating her, and he continued his fiendish work till she was dead. Tucker shot himself, and was taken to the hospital in a serious condition.
