THIRD DRAGOON GUARDS.

AN INCIDENT OF HEROISM

London, Juno 10. A correspondent at British Headquarters says special commendation is

due to the 3rd Dragoon Guards for their defence of the chateau Hooge. Throughout June 2nd the German artillery, firing high explosives, shrapnel, and stink bombs, searched the lines of communication with a- torrent of projectiles, and often twenty-ininuto infantry attacks followed the bombardment. The Germans wore khaki tunics, giving the lie to the declaration that they had not used our uniforms. The a^ttackera Were allowed to reach the chateau when the batteries opened fire. The Germans, who rushed into the opon, wore. caught by the machine guns, losing heavily. An incident of heroism occurred among the Dragoon Guards. During the heavy shelling of the Hocge Village post, three men were; blown to bits. Another lot replaced them,; one man was killed, and a, second was wounded and buried up to the. shoulder by falling brickwork. Private Leigh, a stretcher bearer, went out under heavy slioll firo and for two hour':! tried to disentangle the unforbunato man. Eventually he freed him, but the man \va-s dead.
