LEVEL CROSSING CASES
Judgment was given in the case of N. W. Naylor, motor driver, charged with failing to slacken speed and pull up when approaching within 100 yards of a railway crossing. The case was laid under section 10 of the Railway Act, and as no penalty was prescribed the information was dismissed.
The same defendant was then similarly charged under section 25 of the Railway Act. Mr. A. T. Maginnity appeared for the defendant, who pleaded guilty. Defendant was convicted and fined 10s, with costs 7s.
J. B. Corbett, cabdriver, pleaded guilty to a similar charge. Sergeant Barrett stated that in this case the engine was within three or four yards of defendant's cab, and had to slow up. Defendant was convicted and fined 10s, with costs 7s.
