The medical evidence showed that Stoddart was suffering from pneumonia, which increased his depression.

Andrew Ernest Stoddart captained two representative teams which visited Australia. He was a member of the Middlesex Eleven .and for two years captain of Blackheath. He was born at Soufli Shields in 1863. Stoddart made the highest score on record, 485, for Hampstead v. Stoics, on August 4th, 1886. He "had captained England both at cricket and Rugby football.
