SUICIDE OF STODDART.

London, April 5

A. E. Stoddart, the famous cricketer, shot himself owing to financial difficulties.

At the inquest on Stoddart ' the widow gave evidence that he had re- j signed the secretaryship of the Queen's Club owing to a nervous breakdown. He had been without work since, and; was very depressed. He lost his money through the war. Late on Saturday night he took a pistol from his pocket and said he was going to finish it. His wife advised him to consult his friends and after a slight struggle she secured* the pistol, but returned it as it was not loaded. She took away a box of cartridges. Later she found her husband dead in bed, and then discovered that he had another box of cartridges. A verdict of suicide was returned.
