FRENCH REVIEW OF THE WAR
[PiBSS Association- Cofyright.]
THE ARMY REJUVENATED,
Paris, March 25
The French review of the -war states that the French army has been rejuvenated on a large scale by the promotion of young commanders. The average age of generals and officers has been lowered by ten years. Old generals at the head of large commands in August have been gradually' eliminated, some owing to the physical strain of war, and others owing to appointments to territorial commands. Each regiment has now 48 officers and non-comis. Every unit is up to war strength. France has two and a quarter million men at the front, and one and a quarter million at the depots ready to repair the wastage, apart from half a million of the 1915 class army. The war has hardened the men, and their health is excellent. They have learnt to use the spade, and their trenches are now proof against the 77-' millimetre guns and often against larg- ', er guns.
