UNSUPPORTED CONFESSION.

Wellington, March 19. When Chas. Harvey appeared on remand at the Magistrate's Court, charged with the murder of a Chinese storekeeper on September 12th, the police, asked for permission to withdraw the charge, upon the recommendation 01 the Crown Law Office. The only evidence against the accused was his own statement or confession. The police had inquired into that, and ; were satisfied that no jury would convict Harvey. . The accused was accordingly . discharged.
