LINER'S ESCAPE FROM SUB-
MARINES
TWO STEAMERS TORPEDOED
SIX LIVES LOST;

The liner Cameronia eluded a submarine off the Mull of Galloway. A quarter of an hour later two submarines appeared, one on either side of the liner. SKe zigzagged for twenty minutes at a speed of eighteen knots, and escaped.
The Admiralty announces that the small steamer Atlanta was torpedoed off Inisturk on the 14th. The crew were landed, and the vessel reached harbour.
It is reported that the crew of the submarine tried to snipe the crew of the steamer with rifles and revolvers.
The steamer Fingall was torpedoed on the 15th, off Northumberland. Twenty-one landed, but six, including the chief mate and the stewardess, perished.
The Fingall sank in a. few minutes with a tremendous explosion. The first boat got clear, but the second, containing the victims, failed to get clear. The boilers burst as the steamer foundered.
The captain of the steamer Headlands, coolly snap-shotted the TJ2S while she was manoeuvring to discharge her torpedo.
The photograph discloses a high bow, designed for greater speed on the surface.
