INTERNMENT OF UNEMPLOYED GERMANS.

SHORTAGE OF FODDER

(Received March 18, 8.5 p.m.)

Melbourne, March 18

Senator Pearce announces that the Defence Department has decided to follow the British Government's lead in interning naturalised Germans who are unable to find employment, and granting them destitution money at the rate of 10s a week.

The Minister of Agriculture, replying to a deputation regarding the shortage of fodder, said he would consult the Cabinet on the possibility of obtaining, supplies from New Zealand and San Francisco. Despite NewZealand's prohibition against export, the Dominion Government might heed representations on behalf of the State.
