There was a large audience at the Empire Theatre last evening, and tiheir [appreciation of the programme was shown by the' enthusiasm with which each picture was received. To-night, in addition to this series, there will be ex- j hibited a War Topical cinema film.en-j titled "In Nieuport Under Fire." ibis picture was taken while shells were actually falling in the town, and shows the French and Belgian troops m their trenches and in course of transport. The star feature of the programme which proved such an attraction last evening is a Famous Players' reproduction of Sir \V alter Scott's great romance, "The Heart of Midlothian.'' Jeannie at last finds that only by telling a lie can she prevent her sister's execution,, but this she refuses to do, and rather walks barefoot from Edinburgh to London to beg the Queen to save her sister's life. They offer her the pardon in exchange for betraying Effie's false lover's hid-ing-place, but she refuses to reveal it. Her loyalty and strength of character appeal to the Queen's sympathies, and she grants the pardon. Jeannie hastens back to the prison., and reaches the place of execution just in time to ! save her sister's life. The supporting programme includes several amusj ing comedies, some interest films, and 'the latest Gaumont Graphic. j j COUNTRY TOUR. Richmond will be visited to-night, when "The War With Turkey" and "The Trap" will be screened.
