NELSON CLUB. i

ANNUAL MEETING.

■{.From "Tho Colonist, • VeX Uu ) The annual meeting of the Nelson Golf Club was held at the Institute last evening. The captain (Mr C. Treweek) presided over a fair attendance of members. Before the minutes were read the chairman expressed regret at the unavoidable absence of the President (Mr J. H. Cock). The committee, in the seventeenth annual report, which was read by Mr "VV. Devenish, acting-honorary secretary, stated that the membership dur ing the season under review compris-i ed 80 men ordinary members, 56 lady •ordinary members, 7 country men members, 9 non-playing men members, and 8 non-playing lady members. The number of men ordinary members was about the same as last year, but there were about 20 fewer latty ordinary members. The country membership was established during the year. The new course was opened, and it was generally considered an improvement on the old one. It was hoped, if the membership kept up, to wipe tmt the deficiency on the accounts, and tha-t the club would be able to pay its vray during the coming year. In moving the adoption of the report and balance-sheet, the chairman referred to the loss the club had sustained by the departure for the front of the secretary (Mr McCabe) and several other members. The laying out of the new course had been ft heavy expenditure for the club to face, but the result achieved should compensate for this. The course was not yet perfect, but when the distances were rectified— and this was only a question of time—' further improvement would be effected. He trusted that the coming Beacon would be a successful one. Mr Broad seconded tbe motion, which was earned.
