OTHER OUTBREAKS.
At about 8 o'clock last evening the firebells sounded an alarm. It appears! that an overcoat hanging in the passage of a house occupied by Mr Baxter, in Washington Valley, caught fire, destroying the garment and scorching the walls. The fire was promptly suppressed without the services of the Fire Bri-1 gade being needed. An incipient fire at the Druids' Hall, Collingwood street, last night, was extinguished before any damage was done. At about 10 minutes to 11 Constable Berthelson noticed that some cocpanut matting which was lying on top of the exhaust of the gas-engine that is used for the lighting of the Imperial Pictures, had ignited. Assistance was rendered by Constable O'Donnell and some neighbour's, and the fire was put out with buckets of water. It was not necessary *o sound an alarm on the bells. There was some loose timber near the matting, and if the fire had not been noticed in time the wood might have caught alight also.
