AMATEUR ATHLETICS.

At the annual meeting of the council of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association, the report recorded that increased interest had been taken in amateur athletics. The great strides which the sport had made in tho Dominion was evidenced by the increased number of clubs in active operation, by the large access of strength to the clubs, by tho r umber of successful sports meetings held throughout New Zealand, and by ti-e greatly increased public interest" all of which was in no small measure due to the successful visit of tho American track and field team. The council was extremely gratified to find so many amateur athletes at present on active service. Their absence would be felt during the coming season. The council confidently called on the centres, on all theclubs, and on the individual athletes to maintain their in terest in the sport. It was hoped that the funds from isports meetings during the coming year would, wherever possible, be devoted to entirely patriotic purposes.

Owing to the heavy outlay last year through the Americans' tour and the sending of a team to Australia, the balance-sheet showed an excess of expenditure of £218 5s 3d, but the assets of the council'made a balance of £2 5s over the liabilities.

It was decided that the New Zealand championships meeting be allocated to Auckland this year, as it was their turn, the date to be fixed by .December-
