(To the Editor of "The Colonist!") Sir,—The enclosed proposal, oinhnatina; from1 the Wanganui Meat Freezing Co., Ltd., has been placed before* the freezing companies throughout jNew Zealand* and at a meeting of I the directors of the Nelson Freezing Company, it was resolved to heartily; .endorse the proposal at the annual meeting of the shareholders to be held next month. I am, etc., Wm. SPENCER HAMPSON, Secretary, Nelson Freezing Company. (Enclosure.) The Manager, ; ■ Nelson Freezing Co., Nelson.; This company has a project to place before you which should appeal to all reezing companies. _ , _ Briefly, bur proposal is that at tne commencement of next season each company in New Zealand shall donate? as much "good-beef, mutton and lamb (frozen and f.d.b.) as its finances will permit, tlie same to be sent to London and transhipped to France and presented on behalf of the New Zealand freezinc companies to the French Govern* ment for distribution amongst those French people who are short of fooct owing to the war. : If this project is carried out we snaj. be assisting our Ally, and further -it will prove a great advertisement for our meat. We feel sure that shipping companies will carry this meat, free and companies' agents'will no doubt handle it We and hand it from their stores to our Hiffh Commissioner in London, who wall see that it reaches its destination at the lowest possible cost. As a preliminary to the above being carried out it would be necessary to get our High Commissioner to ask the French Government if the gift would be. acceptable, and if the meat dressed as for London with New Zealand Government certificate of inspection will m this case be allowed entry into France. As to their reply we have no doubt. Further, we suggest that each freezing company shall..mak.p •#i^ 1j&-i\Tu28h" sundries, such as ox, sheep and lambs' hearts, scrag neck ends of beef, sheep and lamb frys, etc., and also secure from farmers in their districts such donations as are procurable, for distribution amongst the poor people of Great Britain. By so doing, we shall be rendering such service as lies in our power to help our Mother Country in the present great crisis. To carry out our first proposal, it will be necessary for freezing companies to act in conjunction; for our second proposal each company can act independently. t We shall be obliged if you will give the above matter your early and careful consideration, and (1) let us know whether you are in favour of our proposals; (2) let us have any suggestion you have to make as to how we should act to bring'the proposals to a successful issue. For the Wanganui Meat Freezing Company, Ltd., C. M. CRESSWELL, Secretary.
