The Allies'front on the left is consiantJy extending, Large numbers of German troops are moving to the north of the Turcoing-Armentieres line, on the franco-Belgian frontier. A German attack at Lassigny was unsuccessful, and the Allies have made a slight advance north of Soissons. In East Prussia the Germans have been reinforced from Konigsberg. Fierce fighting has occurred in the Suwalki district, and the Germans are withdrawing across the frontier. The Russians have crossed th« Carpathians, and their advance is causing much "alarm in Austria-Hungary. The Japanese have occupied Jaluit, the chief town of the Marshall Islands, a German possession in tbe Pacific.'
