Mr. Hughes states that the Federal Government does not intend' to retrench the Public Service, but intends- settiag. an example to private enterprise in matters of employment: Referring la defence matters Mr. Hughes said it was clear they must get more ships, which must be built in Australia. The war would decide what type was best fitted for modern warfare:
