SIGNALMAN'S RACE.

Racing a train oh the Midland-Rail-way near Tamjvorth the other day, a signalman named George Leafe saved the life of a miner's child, aged twenty months, who was sitting playing on tho rails while the train was approaching a signal-box. The train had passed the distant signal when another signalman, looking out from the box, saw the child on the line. He at once- reversed the signals and waved a red flag. Meanwhile George Leafe, walking down the line to go on dutj^ saw ihe child's danger. He ran along the line in front of the train and snatched the child from the rails. By that time the train, still under way, was.only about ten yards behind them. Neither man nor child was hurt.
